How to Monetize Your Custom GPT?

OpenAI launched custom GPTs in November 2023 allowing anyone to create their own version of ChatGPT, catering to personal goals or having some sort of a customization that is just not available with traditional ChatGPT.

There are a couple of problems however with OpenAI's GPTs:

  1. You can't really share them with everyone — in order for someone to use your GPT, they will need to have ChatGPT plus. While some of your users may not mind paying $20/mo in order to use your GPT, you'll be severely limiting yourself for as far as we know only 0.02% of ChatGPT users subscribe to Plus.
  2. You can't monetize them (without revenue sharing) — even though OpenAI intends to do revenue sharing, you will need to immensely popular to start getting a cut. Moreover, you'll need to be based in the US to qualify as of Mar. 2024 for the revenue sharing program. What if you already have someone willing to pay you hundreds of dollars for using your GPT?

Introducing Pmfm.ai — a simple platform to monetize your custom GPTs. The basic idea is that you would connect your bank account with Stripe in order to get paid and then simply charge someone for using your chatbot (ex:- $100 for 50 chat credits).

More importantly, you can share the GPT bots you create with anyone really — no plus requirement or anything needed for the users.

Here's a step-by-step process on how to do this:

  1. Sign up on pmfm.ai

    Pmfm.ai signup page
  2. Connect Your Stripe Account

Once you have signed up, connect your Stripe (if you want to monetize) by clicking on the "Connect with Stripe" button.

  3. Create Your App

Click on the "Create App" button to create your first custom GPT app

    Create App button on dashboard
  4. Configure Your GPT

Fill out the form with the necessary details. You can copy this from your custom GPT on OpenAI. In the model section, choose GPT 3.5 or GPT 4. These are two of the most used OpenAI models. GPT 3.5 is what powers ChatGPT and GPT 4 is the advanced version of 3.5. You can compare these two models and the pricing to make a decision which one you like.

  5. Launch Your GPT

Click on Create app and that's all — now you'll have a link that you can share with others and even publish your bot to your website. Check out our example app on Twitter!
